One of the reasons corn snakes make great pets is that corn snakes are a manageable size for just about anyone. So, would a giant corn snake be a bad pet snake? Today, we find out!
We'll also talk about why some corn snakes might reach huge sizes by talking about corn snake hybrids. What species of snake can corn snakes breed with?
How do you measure a wiggly snake? Dozer is a gentle giant, but how do I know that he's over 6'? Well, he lives in a 6' enclosure and conveniently sometimes extends the full length with his nose in one corner and tail in the other, but there are other ways you can measure your snake if you want to know how long your snake is:
- Letting them crawl through a known length of PCV pipe and measuring the bit of tail that sticks out.
- getting them to extend straight on a tile floor (good luck) and counting the tiles.
- Using a ribbon tape measure (or even a bit of string) and contouring it to his bends - this one is tricky, they don't sit still!
- http://serpwidgets.com/main/measure is a great way to estimate the length, but relies on the accuracy of your tracing of your snake's body, so multiple measurements will yield the best result.
