– Steve Jobs
The debate over data protection and ensuring accountability in case of its breach has been on a continuum and the drift towards digital workspace has further increased such discourse. In order to promote further discussion on the recent developments on data protection and the Data Protection Bill, The Committee to Organize Seminars, Workshops, Extra-Murals and Special Lectures at RMLNLU, Lucknow organized a guest lecture session on “Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021: Tussle Between Central Government and Digital Media Platforms.”
The Guest Speaker for the session; Dr. Amar Patnaik is a Member of Parliament. He was appointed as the member of various parliamentary committees including the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Personal Data Protection Bill. He has been vocal about the issues of data protection and the right to privacy and has opined for an independent data protection body in India. He has been known for a systems reform approach even in political systems as head of the IT cell of BJD.
In this session Dr. Patnaik has discussed the recent IT Rules: emphasizing on the need for a better data protection policy and the use of technological advancement for better functioning of the administration. Further highlighting the need to prioritize cybercrime reduction while keeping the disturbance to privacy and personal data to a minimum.
The Committee is grateful for his time and presence and we hope the session proves fruitful for the audience.
