Séan Scullion is an officer in the British Army serving in the Royal Engineers. A bilingual Spanish-English speaker, he was brought up in Spain during the latter part of Franco Dictatorship and was in the country during its transition to democracy in the late 1970s. Séan is a Hispanic Studies graduate from the University of Nottingham and continues to have strong links with the country. His historical interests lie mostly in the conduct of the Spanish Civil War, the Anglo-Portuguese Army in the Peninsular War and other aspects of the Second World War. He regularly guides and is Secretary of the Royal Engineers Historical Society, is a Friend of the Lines of Torres Vedras and was Secretary of Peninsular War 200. He is currently carrying out detailed research on the role of Spaniards in the fighting of the Second World War and continues to expand his understanding and knowledge of the subject.
Drawn from personal accounts and other sources, this untold story of the service and contribution of Spaniards to the British Army during the Second World War has seldom been covered by historians. With a variety of experience and backgrounds, battle hardened Spaniards served across the British Army and distinguished themselves in the Middle East Commandos, Airborne Forces, SAS and SOE adding to the rich tapestry of the British Army we still know today. Séan will cover the story of these Spaniards who served in many different theatres of war from Norway to Spanish Guinea and Morocco to Burma but mostly concentrating on the Mediterranean Theatre and give an insight into what motivated these men to keep Continuing the Fight against Fascism.
