Many Cricut users have never needed to create a custom material in Cricut Design Space. But there are times where you may be using a material that isn’t on the pre-set materials list OR the non-Cricut brand material you’re using is very different from the Cricut version (thicker, thinner, etc.) OR a material doesn’t cut correctly when using the Cricut pre-set. It’s actually very easy to add your own custom materials with custom pressure, multi-cut and blade settings but it’s a bit tough to find exactly where you can do this in Cricut Design Space. This tutorial will tell you the where, what and how of adding your own custom materials to Cricut Design Space!
STEPS TO ADDING A CUSTOM MATERIAL:
1. On the Make It screen (after the mat screen), click on Browse All Materials to open the materials list.
2. In the lower left corner of the All Materials screen, click the Material Settings link to open the Custom Materials Settings screen.
3. Scroll ALLLLLL the way to the bottom of the list (it's long) and click on the Add New Material link in the lower left.
4. Name the material in the box that opens and save it.
5. Scroll back up the list until you find the new material added alphabetically to the list.
6. Set the custom pressure setting by sliding the bar to the number you want or by using the plus and minus buttons. Change the multi-cut function and blade type (if desired). Click Save to save the settings.
7. Close the list and return to the Set Base Material screen. Click Brows All Materials again.
8. Scroll down the All Materials list noticing that materials are divided into alphabetical categories. There is now a new category called ‘My Materials' where all of your custom materials will now live. Click on the material you just added to select it.
9. The Set Base Material screen will now show your custom material as the material. Now you can make your project using the custom material. Yay!
Please refer to the video tutorial for more detailed explanations of the above steps. Thanks for watching!
