Joseph was a Habiru/ Hyksos ruler and former-slave of the Egyptians.
The R1b Hyksos dynasty was of Palestinian (not Egyptian) origin, but they ruled most of northern Egypt as the 15th dynasty (c. 1630–1523 BC), during the Second Intermediate period. The name "Hyksos" was used by an Egyptian historian named Manetho (300 BC), who, according to the historian Flavius Josephus (1st century AD), translated the word as “king-shepherds” or “captive shepherds.”
During the time of Joseph's promotion to rank of 2nd in command, which may have been roughly around 1670 BC, the Hyksos people would've been very prevalent in the land of Egypt. The Assyrians would not arrive in the Nile region until centuries after Ramsese II, in the time-period of 677-663 BC, but the Hyksos had been there long before. Therefore, they couldn't have been Assyrians, but they definitely were Semites and, as most historians agree, Hebrews.
The innovations of Joseph are near identical to those introduced by the chariot-driven, sheep/ cattle herding, underground silo-constructing Hyksos, whom the Native Egyptians would've called "Apiru" or "Habiru" (meaning "slaves," "strangers," or "dirty workers").
The Hyksos were Y-DNA Haplogroup R1b-M269, which is a lineage that migrated in successive waves from the borders of Western Iran and Northern Iraq to other areas further North and South of the Fertile Crescent, mostly between the Early Bronze and Iron Age, which would've been around the same time as the birth of Isaac's son Jacob.
