The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission has taken suo moto cognizance of the killing of former HNLC leader Cheristerfield Thangkiew early Friday morning. Significantly, the MHRC noted that the instant case appears to have resulted in gross human rights violation. The Commission also directed the Meghalaya Chief Secretary to submit a detailed report into the incident within 15 days.
