All unemployment compensation programs as originally authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020, and extended through the Continued Assistance Act (CAA) of 2021 and American Rescue Plan (ARP) of 2021, will end on September 4, 2021. Programs that will be affected by this expiration are Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC/PEUC-A), Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), and Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation (MEUC). The last payable week for PUA and PEUC benefits will be the week ending September 4, 2021 regardless of an existing dollar balance or remaining eligible weeks.
The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions along with New Mexico Higher Education Department hosted a virtual town hall in regards to the scheduled end of benefits and discuss resources through Ready NM that provides job search, training programs, and information to upskill and reskill. Subject matter experts were on hand to provide further details on what claimants can expect, answer questions, and provide information on available resources and services from other agencies.
