A baby born in Singapore last year, who is believed to be the world's smallest baby to have survived a premature birth, went home last month after more than a year in the hospital.
Kwek Yu Xuan was delivered via an emergency C-section in June 2020 at Singapore's National University Hospital, the facility shared on Facebook. She weighed just under 7.5 ounces and was approximately the size of a large apple.
The baby spent 13 months in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit before being discharged.
A registry of “the tiniest babies” managed by the University of Iowa lists a baby born in Germany in 2016 at 8.1 ounces.
