Yet another stimulus scam is going around, so stay vigilant. This time, it was the FBI who stepped in and made the announcement on Twitter. The scam is mainly affecting the Portland, Oregon area.
The Tweet said: “Families across OR are receiving IRS Child Tax Credit checks, but fraudsters are trying to take advantage of the situation.”
The FBI also issued a press release, saying: “Any communication offering assistance to sign up for the Child Tax Credit or to speed up the monthly payments is likely a scam. When receiving unsolicited calls or messages, taxpayers should not provide personal information, click on links, or open attachments as this may lead to money loss, tax-related fraud, and identity theft.”
One man in Virginia is getting 70 months -- nearly six years -- in prison for stealing “U.S. mail addressed to more than 150 individuals in Fairfax and Loudoun counties.”
These scam artists are getting caught and the punishment is not pretty. It just isn’t worth it to steal the stimulus funds from innocent American citizens. It isn’t going to end well for you. Let me know what you guys think in the comments… does the punishment fit the crime?
We have stimulus money that is finally finding its way to the state of Wyoming. Or, at least, one county in Wyoming. Albany County is about to receive more than $7.5 million in federal stimulus funds.
Commissioners of Albany county are still figuring out how to spend that extra money. Some of the suggestions were upgrading the technology in the courthouse to accommodate virtual hearings, strengthening security, and upgrading the wastewater regulations.
In any case, they are saying there are “huge gaps” in their department that need to be addressed. Even with these suggestions, we’re seeing vast ways that stimulus money can help local governments protect themselves and their citizens.
Finally, let’s talk again about Biden’s new tax plan. What many didn’t take into consideration is how these new changes could help raise enough money for two additional stimulus checks.
The checks would both be worth $1,400, just like the ones many Americans are receiving next year. This new tax change is part of Biden’s $3.5 trillion spending plan and Kyle Pomerleau, a tax expert at the American Enterprise Institute, said that the tax changes could raise $800 billion.
This could potentially be a win-win for a lot of Americans who are expecting tax breaks from this new change, as we talked about in yesterday’s video. Those same people could potentially see an additional $2,800 next year. So we’ll see where this goes.
