Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton says there have been “jarring differences” in the way media outlets have covered Sydney and Melbourne’s end to lockdown.
Mr Houghton said New South Wales – which is led by a conservative government – “copped a lashing from progressive voices” when Premier Dominic Perrottet opened up on a day with 498 cases.
“But in Victoria, which recorded 2,235 new cases the day before lockdown ended, the coverage seemed much more positive,” he said.
“I can’t help but notice a stark difference in the way the ABC covers a Labor government compared to a conservative one.”
Mr Houghton said earlier this month, the ABC was “fearmongering” by saying Mr Perrottet’s changes would kill people.
“On Monday, the day after Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews announced lockdown would end, it barely rated a mention,” he said.
