
Perpetrators must be held accountable. But it doesn't mean we shouldn't examine why they do what they do.
The question should NEVER be, "why didn't she leave?" as if it's her fault. It's not. It never was. But it should be "why did they abuse?"
And in the case of Indigenous communities, especially in America, it's important to acknowledge hundreds of years of colonial torture, ignorance, avoidance, violence and harm done to these communities. As such, violence begets violence and the cycle desperately needs to be stopped.
