4 WORST THINGS CLIENTS DO TO CONTRACTORS!..Don't Become A Nightmare Client--HOMEOWNERS SHOULD WATCH!
There are lots of ways that clients can complicate a job for contractors. But these are the 4 WORST types of nightmare clients that I've encountered.
#1: THE WINDOW SHOPPER:
This client approaches contractors with no real intent of tackling the work anytime soon. They're more satisfying idle curiosity about a job. But contractors are busy people, and they may not be in business forever! Hold off on contacting a contractor until you're almost ready to tackle the work.
#2: THE TOUGH GUY:
Some clients seem to think it's best to take a tough, slightly hostile approach towards contractors. But this is a bad idea! If a contractor thinks you're going to be tedious or difficult to work with, they'll most likely pass up on your project. So, be sure to treat contractors just as you'd treat anyone else you meet--with respect!
#3: THE MIND-CHANGER
This is the most common type of nightmare client--one that changes their mind about big elements deep into a project! This can throw off weeks or even months of planning. Try to set a good game plan with your contractor from the beginning--and try to keep your changes small as the project goes along.
#4: THE SECOND-GUESSER:
This is the most devious nightmare client I've met. The second-guesser acts like the perfect client until you're deep into a project...then turns into a monster. They begin to question everything from expense to quality late in the game, only because they're determined to get a deal in the end. Don't be a second-guesser! Always shoot straight with your contractor.
Thanks for watching--and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
