If you study the data on armwrestling results across the world, you will find a growing trend towards dominance from athletes that have heavy pronated back pressure.
This correlation is most obvious in super heavyweight divisions where you will struggle to find a hook based or inside style puller in the top 20 overall world ranks.
At the lighter weight divisions you will see a much more balanced distribution of inside and outside styles from the top ranked competitors, and perhaps even a slight dominance from wrist flexion and side pressure based styles, which leads us to some interesting conclusions.
Of the four fundamental armwrestling strengths, back pressure, wrist flexion, pronation and side pressure, it would seem there is a ceiling to human potential.
Due to the dominance of toprollers in the overall world ranks its clear that back pressure has a higher ceiling for development than that of any other fundamental.
This can be easily illustrated by looking at athletes like Krasimir Kostadinov who is a truly elite hook puller with wrist flexion and side pressure his ace. Despite his best efforts he has been unable to crack into the top tier of overall ranks and has been dominated by opponents with massive back pressure.
While this stands true for supers, at the lighter categories it does still seem most beneficial to focus on wrist flexion and side pressure, however once someone reaches approx 90kg and above I believe pronated back pressure is the most brutal strength in armwrestling.
